Dove Elementary's Specials

Dear Dove Parents,

We are excited about this year at Dove Elementary. The specials teachers are looking forward to a fun and productive school year with your children.

All students will come to specials every day. During the first and third nine weeks, students will have Spanish. The second and fourth nine weeks, students will have Art. Students will go to PE three times a week, and rotate between Music and Spanish/Art once a week.

Each major area will be adapted according to grade level. To help your child have a successful year in special classes, we have developed the following guidelines:

PE Dress Code: Students need to wear appropriate attire for physical activity. GCISD policy requires students to wear tennis shoes to every PE class for his/her safety. Girls must wear shorts under skirts and dresses.

PE Excuses: A note from a parent/guardian must accompany any excuse from activity. If a student needs to be excused from PE for more than three consecutive days, a doctor's note is required.

Specials Grading: Music and P.E. grades will be given in two areas. One grade will reflect skills, knowledge, and positive participation, while the conduct grade will reflect attitude and citizenship. Spanish and Art grades will be based on positive participation/conduct. Signing the discipline book will directly affect the child's conduct grade.

The following behavior responsibilities will apply in all special areas (Art, Music, P.E., and Spanish):

  1. Be responsible and treat others with respect
  2. Follow directions the first time given
  3. Keep hands, feet, objects, and negative comments to yourself
  4. Raise your hand and wait for permission before speaking or moving during instruction
  5. Use supplies, instruments, and equipment as instructed.

Positive reinforcement, praise, and special activities will be given to those who choose to follow the rules.

If a student chooses to break the rules, the following consequences will be applied:

  • Verbal warning
  • The child will record inappropriate behavior in a classroom discipline book. The child's homeroom teacher will be notified. A note will be sent home to be signed by a parent/guardian and must be returned the next day.
  • Students who continue to display inappropriate behavior will be sent to the office
  • Any child causing a severe disruption will be sent directly to the office

Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at Dove Elementary 817-251-5700 during our conference time 11:30-12:15.
